Google is set to launch a new search engine that it hopes will replace its own popular search engine, a move that would help it compete with Facebook and Twitter.
The news is a huge blow to Google, whose search business has grown rapidly over the past decade and could be a potential driver of future growth.
Its search engine has been a major part of the way the company has helped millions of people find the news they need, from food and travel sites to news and entertainment sites.
But the company is also facing pressure from rivals including Microsoft and Yahoo to focus more on its own news and social network.
Google, which is based in Mountain View, California, is in talks with Microsoft and Facebook about creating a new version of its search engine.
Google is not the only tech giant struggling to gain traction in search, which has historically been dominated by the likes of Facebook and Apple.
The search business is a particularly vulnerable sector as users spend less time using search engines and more time on websites.
Google’s chief executive officer Sundar Pichai said in a blog post on Wednesday that Google’s new search product will offer a more comprehensive user experience.
Pichai also outlined plans to build a new team of engineers to build an improved search engine as part of a broader effort to boost the quality of its products.
The search business grew rapidly during the past few years.
Between 2011 and 2017, Google earned about $20 billion in operating income, according to data from research firm IHS.
That growth has accelerated in the past year, however, as Google has struggled to attract new users and keep pace with competitors such as Facebook and Microsoft.
“Google’s search business may be suffering under the weight of rapidly evolving competition,” said Chris Smith, an analyst at research firm IDC.
“This news comes at a time when the company needs to address a number of challenges to ensure its search business remains a top priority for the long-term.”
Google’s plans for the new search company, codenamed Search Engine X, were first reported by Bloomberg.
Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“We have been looking for a way to get back to Google’s roots, to build the best search engine for people around the world,” Google Chief Operating Officer Jim Pallotta said in the blog post.
Pallotta said Google would continue to innovate and expand its search product.
“We have always been a company of the web and this is a significant shift in direction,” he said.
Google also announced a $3.2 billion investment in an artificial intelligence company called Neustar that it says will help the search company deliver the best results for search queries.
The company also announced it was expanding its AI research efforts to include a project that aims to develop “deep learning” technology to better understand how users use their computers.
Palliota said Google plans to use artificial intelligence to provide better results to its users, which he said would help the company’s search platform compete with rival search engines such as Bing.
The announcement came two weeks after the company unveiled its new search products that aim to improve the search experience for users, including better search results for people who visit more than one site at a given time.
Google has been working on a new type of search that will offer personalized results based on user interests, location and search queries, among other things.
The new search system is still in the early stages, but Pallotta is expected to unveil the technology in coming months.
Google already has its own competitor in Facebook and has been in talks about joining the social network in recent months.
Facebook has been using its own version of the search engine on its Messenger app for several months.
In addition to the new Google search product, Pallotta also said Google is expanding its business in areas such as healthcare, home appliances, technology, medical equipment and automotive.
Google CEO Sundar Page said the company expects its search platform to be more efficient in providing better search services for businesses and consumers, and to provide them with the tools they need to innovate.
“The search engine will be the new engine of the future,” he told reporters at a news conference.
“Our customers are demanding it.”
